Fluorite Octahedron w/ Chalcopyrite Inclusions
Cave-In-Rock District, Hardin County, Illinois, USA
Ex. Bert Helwig Collection
35 x 25 x 25 mm
A classic piece from a classic locality. Southern Illinois is considered the best Fluorspar district in the USA and you can see why when you look at examples like this one. This specimen displays both purple and yellow colors partnered with brassy yellow needle like sprays of chalcopyrite. This particular piece has been cleaved (broken) by man into the octahedron shape. This is very common practice with fluorite. Be sure to check out the video!
