Zincite
Swietochlowice, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland
(Ex. Bert Helwig Collection)
4.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm
This specimen of zincite displays a beautiful mix of red, orange, yellow, and green colors. The luster has an almost waxy appearance. There is much speculation over the origin of these pieces. Many on the market are currently lab created. The origin of this one is either from the smoke stacks in a zinc smelting plant or from the Tarnowskie Gory mine fire in the 1970’s. Either way, it’s a great example of this material. Condition is good with only a few tiny dings here and there.
